Francisco Javier Bermúdez Ruiz is a lecturer at Computer Science Faculty in the University of Murcia. He teaches subjects related to Software Engineering, such as object-oriented programming in Java, design patterns and web and distributed programming. Previously, he was working for six years in several software companies as software analyst and developer. He has got the PhD in Computer Science since 2015 at the University of Murcia, obtaining the European mention in doctorate degrees with a quality mention (Ministry of Education. Spain). He is member of the ModelUM Research Group. His main research interests are focused on model‐driven software engineering (MDE), in particular, model‐driven data modernization and model‐driven process engineering. Other research interests are software processes and data interoperability by means of modeling techniques.
The objective of his PhD consisted on applying MDE techniques to the data modernization in legacy applications. He was working in the definition of a data reengineering process using MDE techniques, such as metamodeling and model transformation. This process included data quality improvements and database normalization checking and fixing. A tooling to support the modernization process was implemented in order to prove the process in a pilot project for a regional company. He did a 3-month stay in the University of Namur, in Belgium. There, he had the opportunity of working in the Precise Research Center where he could apply his toolset in a real case study (a clinical management system). Recently he has applied part of his previous works in a new migration scenario: the modernization of Oracle Forms applications to new platforms, as Java EE. The new process migration has been supported by a grant in collaboration with a national company.
Beyond research, he is academic coordinator of Software Engineering Mention in the Computer Science Degree of the University of Murcia. He is also member of the committee in charge of evaluating student practices in external companies.
